Rob Schrieder from Ontario owns what has to be one of the be oddest mud racing machines in Canada! I have travelled to races all over North America and have seen some weird machines. Everything from 4x4 VW Bugs to top fuel dragsters. But I have never seen an Arctic Cat snowmobile mud racer!



It started out as a 1999 Arctic Cat, but it did not stay that way for long! Rob hand built the chassis while all the sheet metal work was done by GW Sheet Metal. The heart of this beast is a 540ci Merlin with a 1471 Moonham Blower and Buzzard alcohol injection. Built by Atcheson Machine Shop in London, ON , the powerhouse is rumoured to be putting out 1600-1800HP! This is all fed into a 2 speed Powerglide transmission which is coupled to a chain drive transfer case custom built by Rob. The rear diff is a custom built Dana 60 with either hand cut Boggers or paddle tires, depending on the class being run. The front end is a Dana 30 from a Jeep with hand cut Mickey Thompson Baja Claws tires.



The impressions that the Thunder Cat have left on the mud racing world has prompted Rob to start a chassis building company.
