| WHITE KNIGHT
|
By Wes Kibble The sun strains through the mist rising from the lake. Somewhere off in the distance, you can hear a loon calling out. Another perfect morning in the wilderness. But wait...what is that other sound? You turn your head around slowly and see a monstrous creature moving through the morning fog. Enormous, yet elegant. You watch as the Knight moves towards its enemy, carefully plotting its next move. With agility that is incredible to something so large, it quickly conquers its opponent. As the Knight approaches, you find yourself frozen in a trance. All of a sudden, the door of the noble ride opens and Theresa Huarte hops down. Yes guys, the largest and gnarliest S10 Blazer in Canada is driven by a 5 foot 4 inch, 115 lb when soaking wet female. And she regularly defeats the mud pits of Alberta and, more importantly, the males that attempt to halt the Knights dominance.

This Blazer was not born into nobility though. It is due to the hard work of Robin Brisebois and Theresa Huarte, along with a number of good friends. The White Knight started in 1999 as a 1987 Blazer with a 305, 10 bolt axles and 35" tires. Now it stands over 9 feet tall with a 1985 S10 Blazer body, Dana 60 axles front and rear and 44" Boggers.
As with any noble fighting machine, the White Knight is built tough from the ground up. The rear differential is a Dana 60 with 4.10 gears and Power Lock. Rear disc brakes are one of the upcoming winter projects. The front is also a 4.10 Dana 60, but is equipped with a Detroit Locker.

Superlift leaf spring packs combined with a custom body lift to mount the 1-ton frame to the S10 body give the White Knight its incredible stance. It rides on 44x19.5x16.5 Super Swamper Boggers and chrome Bart wheels. The ride is softened by Rancho RS5000 shocks and steering stabilizers. Cross-over steering also makes the White Knight a little more manageable. Custom driveshafts with 1410 series joints connect the diffs to the NP205 divorce transfer case. The transmission is a stout SM465 4 spd with a heavy-duty clutch
The heart of the White Knight is a balanced and blueprinted 468ci. big block. From the 10.5 compression Speed Pro Forged pistons with chrome moly rings to the K&N air filter on top, this engine was built for power and durability. The heads are ported and polished and equipped with other goodies such as roller rockers and Edelbrock aluminum valve covers. The monster breathes through a 4bbl carb and aluminum hi rise manifold with the exhaust gasses exiting through headers and custom dual exhaust. Daul electric fans keep it running cool.
The interior is plain as it houses just the essentials. Two seats and race harnesses keep the driver and passenger from rolling around on the floor while the custom roll cage keeps them safe in case the opportunity should arise. Other than a few gauges and the tilt steering column, the interior is bare.
While the White Knight was built for mud bogging, it does sport a little bit of chrome on the outside. Most noticeable is the Carr aluminum light bar on the roof with 5-6" round chrome lights. Next to it is the chrome factory roof rack. Overall, the White Knight works well. Both Robin and Theresa compete in local mud bogs successfully. Now that the original new truck bugs are worked out, usually one of them wins their class.
An additional note that should be made is that Theresa and the original White Knight were voted by the readers of Four Wheeler magazine to be in the 2001 Top Truck Challenge. They were part way finished the transformation from the big body to the small body when they found out. After many long nights, the White Knight was ready but with no test miles. They reluctantly bowed out of the competition, not wanting to travel 5000kms to run an untested vehicle among a few other small complications.
Make sure that you check out the White Knight's website for more info on the truck and Alberta event coverage. Just make sure that you tell them you saw the White Knight on Off Road Action!
